ACU partners with Ballarat City Rowing Club to grow student sport opportunities

Australian Catholic University (ACU) and Ballarat City Rowing Club are excited to announce a new partnership that will provide students on the Ballarat Campus the opportunity to participate in the Olympic sport.

Ballarat Rowing Club has developed a program that will offer ACU students, of all abilities, access to a dedicated coach, club equipment and facilities to enable students to compete at the state and national level.

“ACU Sport is excited to partner with Ballarat City Rowing Club. Rowing has a strong presence within the Ballarat community and ACU Sport is looking forward to supporting its continued success. There will be plenty of opportunities for students to get involved from learn to row programs to representing ACU at the UniSport Nationals later in the year, said Tristan Liles, Manager National Programs, Sport Health and Wellbeing. “We know this will be a fantastic program for BCRC, ACU and the students themselves.”

Formed in 1870, Ballarat City Rowing Club is among Australia's oldest sporting clubs and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2020. It has a rich history of competing and winning crews at all levels of rowing (International, National, State, Open age, School, Novice and Masters).

The club has produced world champions and Olympians and recently won Victoria’s Champion Club Premiership for the 2019-20 season. The Club’s purpose is to help members maximise their potential, promote the sport of rowing in the community and introduce people to the benefits of rowing which include fitness, friendship, fun and teamwork.

“We are excited to be able to offer ACU students the opportunity to experience rowing at Ballarat City, which has a proud history and unique sporting legacy in Ballarat,” said Sue Peacock, president of Ballarat City Rowing Club. “We are pleased to form this relationship with the university and hope it can lead to other opportunities between the two organisations to not only expand and promote the sport of rowing in Ballarat but offer university students a chance to develop a range of skills through association with the club.”
