Focused on creating a pathway for school leavers into club competition, Vikings is determined to lift water polo’s player retention rate in Queensland.
To encourage young adults to play Vikings has formed agreements with a number of Catholic high schools and ACU to join with their competitive Delfina Premier League or A-Grade teams. They also offer participation programs in the BWPI Social Competition and Polo 4’s.
Ultimately Vikings is just happy to keep players in the water.
“Vikings Water Polo are proud to have partnered with ACU Brisbane. The partnership will offer a seamless transition for our growing base membership of youth players into university and senior water polo,” said Zac Hudson, Vikings Water Polo President.
Not content with taking on the enduring drop-out problem inherent to all sport, Vikings is looking to the future by building a group of athletes to promote water polo to the next generation of players.
Making a positive contribution in our community is important to ACU. So, a collaboration that sees not only our own students, but also primary school children, having the opportunity to experience a new challenge is a win for the club as well as the university.
The ACU and Vikings partnership has already delivered a Little Vikings Come and Try Program for 30 seven to 12-year-olds, as well as a School Holiday Clinic to an 40 primary schoolers.
Eager to increase physical activity amongst our own students, while providing more opportunities for the wider community to be active, ACU is excited for the future of the partnership and its possible activations.
The agreement provides opportunities for students to continue playing the sport they love or take up a new challenge through social sport once at university, while further utilising on campus facilities to drive water polo in the local area.
Access for eligible ACU student members of the club to the ACU Elite Athlete and Performer Program (EAPP) will continue to shine a light on the program.
Continue playing water polo or start your water polo journey.
