ACU students shine at UniSport Nationals in Gold Coast
News 23 OctoberACU students impressed at the UniSport Nationals on the Gold Coast last month with the university clinching nine medals, including an impressive five gold haul.
Australian Catholic University (ACU) has forged a new partnership with Brothers Rugby Club Sydney in a bid to promote rugby and create more educational opportunities for students.
It's a partnership with a community-based sports club that shares ACU's values and has a similar mission, paving the way for collaborative initiatives designed to bring advantages to both organisations and their communities.
As part of this partnership, ACU will support Brothers Rugby Club as the preferred rugby club for ACU students based in Sydney. It will also introduce rugby offerings at ACU's Strathfield Campus, marking a significant development for students and opening exciting avenues for their active involvement in rugby competitions and activities previously unavailable to them.
ACU's endorsement of the club underscores its commitment to local sports clubs and provides students with excellent sporting opportunities. Both ACU and Brothers Rugby Club Sydney are excited about this partnership and the opportunities it brings to their communities.
A key element of this collaboration is the 'Introduction to Women's Sevens' program, which will be hosted annually at the ACU Strathfield Campus, with qualified and experienced Brothers Rugby Club staff managing the initiative. The program kicks off in Semester 1, 2024, and is available for all Sydney-based ACU students to get involved.
ACU is also excited to have Brothers Rugby Club provide qualified and experienced coaches for the 2024 UniSport Nationals team based in Canberra. The team recently won four gold medals at the 2023 UniSport Nationals on the Gold Coast, and with the support of Brothers Rugby Club, we hope to win our first rugby team event medal.
Brothers Rugby Club Sydney has also committed to funding two education scholarships, one each for male and female ACU students under 21 years old. It will be welcome addition to ACU's already popular Elite Athlete and Performer Program.
