You’ll find ACU Active, North Sydney on the ground floor of the Caroline Chisholm House at 33 Berry Street. Our boutique health club offers the latest in cardio, free weights, functional training spaces, and small group classes. We provide a welcoming environment to get active and pursue your fitness goals with expert guidance from qualified exercise scientists. We are open to ACU students and staff, as well as community members.

Meet the trainers

Brett

Brett is a sports and exercise science graduate from UTS. He has expertise in weight loss, functional and sport specific training. Brett has significant experience in fitness management having previously worked for the Sydney Swans and UNSW Fitness and Aquatic. He has been at ACU for three years and is currently the National Gyms and Fitness Manager at ACU Active.

Alysha

Alysha is a current elite athlete and Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science graduate from ACU. Her involvement and subsequent love for sport and physical activity started from a young age. She has been fortunate enough to transition that love into a professional athletics career, highlighted by Commonwealth Games representation. Alysha’s unique experience at the apex of sport combined with her professional experience gives her a diverse outlook to training as she specialises in both general and sport-specific training alongside return to play conditioning.

Larissa

Larissa is an exercise scientist and strength and conditioning coach with a specific interest in training for sports performance. She has always had a passion for exercise and everything it can do for people and enjoys helping clients achieve their goals, while teaching them the skills to train with confidence. Larissa has significant experience in an exercise physiology setting and believes exercise is for everyone and love helping people find a form of exercise they enjoy.

Gordon

Gordon is a current ACU Active gym instructor and sport and exercise science graduate from UTS. His passion for connecting people to their best self through exercise combined with his person-focused, holistic approach in his coaching provides the foundation for his clients to reach their goals. Gordon specialises in individualised strength, power and athletic development training, using his previous industry experience working with athletes across the age and ability spectrum to tailor his approach to the needs of his clients.

Maddy

Maddy is a sport and exercise science graduate with a passion for health, exercise and wellbeing. Since starting to play AFL as a child, she has gained extensive experience in the sports industry, working as a State League AFL coach and a strength and conditioning coach. Maddy specialises in power and strength training, and also has a particular interest in female health and wellness. She is passionate about connecting with people and finding the best ways to motivate them to adopt healthy habits in their training and diet.

Marshall

Marshall is a dual-qualified health professional, holding a Masters of Exercise Physiology and Bachelor of Exercise Science. His passion for physical activity and sport stems from having played and enjoyed many sports in his youth. Marshall looks to take his vast knowledge from his study to educate and inspire his clients to become their best selves and specialises in the areas of prehab and rehabilitation of injuries alongside sport-specific athletic development training.
